Lesson 18 (3.10 & 3.11) 18.06 21:10 to 22:50

Managed to clear all stage3 lessons in 6 sessions. As of the end of this lesson total spent 18 lessons and covered stage1 to stage3.

Below are the testable areas for the circuit course and my weak points.

·         “S” Course – turn back steering wheel before moving out.
·         “Crank” Course – keep left when turning right, keep right when turning left, turn back steering wheel before moving out.
·         Directional Change – engage “R” then turn  fully to the “Right”, start turning when shoulder passing over 2.5bars.
·         Slope – apply handbrake, signal “Right” before moving off, off signal when close to the stop line.
·         Ramp – keep vehicle straight, slowly approaching to the ramp. Step accelerator harder when going up the ramp.
·         Emergency brake – always remember to check surrounding before moving off.
·         Vertical parking – judge the correct turning point when moving in, moving out shoulder must cross over kerb to prevent strike kerb.
·         Parallel packing – keep to the left in order to seeing the left side kerb.

Lesson 17 (3.08 & 3.09) 14.06 21:10 to 22:50

Emergency brake

Don’t care anything, just step brake pedal as harder as you can.

Break on ramp

·         Keep vehicle straight moving forward and slow down when close to the ramp.
·         Stop in front of the ramp, let vehicle auto forward untill the let the front wheel just soft touching the kerb.
·         Step accelerator to generate enough power to go up the ramp then step brake pedal immediately to stop the vehicle in front of the pole.
·         Continue moving forward till the back wheel is gently touching the kerb.
·         Step accelerator to generate enough power to let back wheel go up the ramp.
·         Continue moving forward for a soft landing to let vehicle stop in front of the ramp.
·         Engage “R” to reverse vehicle until the back wheel is soft touching the kerb.
·         Look backward from the rear windscreen.
·         Step accelerator to generate enough power to let back wheel go up the ramp.
·         Step brake immediately to stop vehicle in front of the pole.

Lesson 16 (3.06 & 3.07) 12.06 21:10 to 22:50

In circuit spent about 80mins practicing parallel packing, directional change, “S” course, and crank course.
·         Right turn to number 3 then 28 in circuit signal right, after the turn signal left to change lane and keep left.
·         Directional change – turn RIGHT after shoulder pass over 2.5 bars space.
·         Parallel parking – start turning to the left after rear left wheel reach the 1st bar from left side mirror.
·         Parallel parking – remember to turning steering wheel fully to the left and straight the vehicle before stop.
·         Parallel parking – start turning steering wheel to the left after seeing kerb appears at left side small window of the car.

Also learnt about Vertical Parking: (left, right)
·         Keep vehicle at right side of the lane (close to the lane marking).
·         Engage “R” signal LEFT start reversing vehicle.
·         Observing from left side mirror and continue revering till the rear left wheel is touch the line on the floor (about 2.5meter from the horizontal kerb).
·         Check mirrors, right blind spot, turning steering wheel fully to the left.
·         Check left & right side mirrors to confirm safety between vehicle and kerbs (rear right wheel should touching the corner mark).
·         Reversing vehicle till the kerb is seeing under the side mirror and turning steering wheel 2 rounds to the RIGHT to straight vehicle, engage “P” apply handbrake.
·         Ensure vehicle is in the middle of the parking lot, if too close to any side of the kerb do not moving in.
·         When moving out start turning (left/right) when you shoulder is in line with the kerb.

On the road spent about 20 mins:
·         Adjust mirrors before exit from driving center (stop before the downslope to adjust).
·         Lane changing need increase speed.
·         Making U-turn do not step accelerator too much to have a better control.
·         When turning right remember change to right lane early.
·         Speed too slow on 70km road.

Lesson 15 (3.04 & 3.05): 11.06 21:10 to 22:50

Up to date this is by far the most difficult lesson encountered since I started learn driving.

Directional Change (right, left)

1.       Keep vehicle approx. 1m away from left side, signal left check blind spot and turning steering wheel fully to the left to move in.
2.       Turn back steering wheel when vehicle straight, slightly keep vehicle to the right when moving inside.
3.       Stretch body to the right and be able to seeing the front kerb just below the right side mirror.
4.       Check safety all round (right, rear, left, blind spots), signal right and engage “R”.
5.       Reversing vehicle slowly and start turning steering wheel fully to the RIGHT when your shoulder pass over about two and half bar on your right (or until the horizontal kerb is approx. 3cm pass over from vertical bar of the rear right door window).
6.       Check left side to confirm safety, continue reversing and check rear right wheel is able to clear kerb safely.
7.       Continue reversing and check rear.
8.       Look ahead when vehicle is almost straight, quickly turn steering wheel two rounds to the LEFT to straight vehicle.
9.       Observe from left side mirror stop vehicle when about 0.5m away from the back wheel stopper (or by seeing the kerb is covered by the left side mirror).
10.   Stop vehicle, select “D” signal left check right and check left blind spot then turn fully to the left to move out.
11.   Turn steering wheel straight when vehicle almost straight.

Parallel Parking

Parking (left, right, right, left)
1.       Keep vehicle approx. 0.5-0.8m away from left kerb.
2.       Signal left check right blind spot look through the rear windscreen, and engage “R”.
3.       Revering vehicle, look at left side mirror until the base of the left rear wheel approx. 1m away from the left kerb (vehicle moving close to the first bar).
4.       Confirm safety on the right, turn steering wheel fully to the LEFT.
5.       Reverse look at right side mirror until the black color segment of the back wheel stopper appears (vehicle is about 45”to the parking lot).
6.       Turn steering wheel 2 rounds to the RIGHT to straight vehicle.
7.       Check rear and continue reversing until right rear tire touch the white line, turn steering wheel fully to the RIGHT.
8.       Continue reversing stop approx. 0.5m away from the back wheel stopper, and turn back steering wheel 2 rounds to the LEFT.
9.       At regular interval, check on the left side mirror to ensure the rear left wheel do not hit the kerb.
10.   Engage “D” moving forward and adjust steering wheel to straight vehicle in parallel with the parking lot (stop when front kerb appears under the right side mirror).
11.   Engage “R” reversing to stop vehicle in the center of the lot.
12.   Shift to “P” and apply handbrake.

Moving out (left, right, right, left)
1.       Select “D” release handbrake, move vehicle forward about half wheel space (front kerb appear under the right side mirror).
2.       Select “R” look through rear windscreen for safety.
3.       Move back, turn steering wheel fully to the LEFT.
4.       Stop approx. 0.5m away from the back wheel stopper, and return steering wheel two rounds to the RIGHT before the vehicle stop.
5.       At short intervals, check left side mirror to ensure the rear left wheel do not hit the kerb.
6.       Stop vehicle and select “D”
7.       Signal RIGHT check right mirror and blind spot, turn steering wheel fully to the RIGHT.
8.       Move forward slowly, check safety on the right and do not cross the center line.
9.       When the bottom left corner of the front windscreen meet the left kerb, turn steering wheel two rounds to the LEFT to straight vehicle and moving off.

Lesson 14 (3.03): 09.06 13:20 to 15:00

Mistakes while driving on the road
·        Emergency stop before turning to the left when traffic light was green (should press horn instead of stop to warning passenger) - too dangerous if there are vehichles following behind.
·         Steering wheel control still need improve.
·         Build up confidence while driving at high speed.
·         Blind spot check.

S Course
·         Turning from left - when kerb in line with the front door holder turn fully to the left.
·         Turning from right – when shoulder in line with kerb to turn fully to the right.
·         Control speed to slowly adjust steering wheel while moving inside the S course.
·         Turn back steering wheel fully before exit.
·         No time limit during TP test.

Crank Course
·         Turning from left - when kerb in line with the front door holder turn fully to the left.
·         Turning from right – when shoulder in line with kerb to turn fully to the right.
·         Keep left while turning right & keep right while turning left.
·         Turn fully and fast, always turn back the steering wheel when vehicle is straight before make the next turn.
·         Turn back steering wheel fully before exit.
·         No time limit during TP test.

Lesson 13 (3.01 & 3.02): 05.06 21:10 to 22:50

Since the 1st half of the traffic police test will be within the circuit, get familiar with the circuit routes will be very important in order to be able to move around within the circuit to complete various tasks before driving on the main road.

Driving in circuit
·         Turn left after the number sign and turn right before the number sign.
·         When turning right into 2 lanes road stop vehicle when you shoulder just pass over the kerb, when turning right into 3 lanes road stop vehicle at 3rd lane of incoming traffic.
·         Turning right at junction watch out the traffic light changing (very fast) and incoming traffic to turn quickly.

Reversing

·         Always remember reversing apply same steering wheel direction as moving forward. (turning left when steering left).
·         Turn steering wheel fully to the right and look at left side mirror about 30 cm gap after seeing the pole from the mirror.
·         Seeing through the left behind side window and start reverse vehicle backwards.
·         After see the pole JUST cross over the glass window start turning steering wheel to straight (must remember how many rounds has turned).
·         Reverse vehicle fully after the pole have passed over left side mirror.
·         Same technique when turning left, but only start turning vehicle straight after seeing the pole cross over the glass window about 1/3 width.

Cleared all stage 2 subjects in 6.5 lessons, as of today attended total 12 lessons will start the most challenging stage 3 from tomorrow onwards.
Below are some mistakes as highlighted by the instructor during my last night review session.

·         Moving out from BBDC, fail to give way to traffic on the major road before turning right.
·         When moving off from the kerb side of the road fail to check traffic on the right.
·         Apply emergency brake at amber light, car stopped after the stop line at passenger crossing.
·         Fail to check front mirror (vehicles behind you) when apply foot brake.
·         Making right turn without traffic light, fail to stop car at correct position (shoulder just cross over the kerb stone).
·         Not turn enough during U-turn at wide divider.
·         Fail to turn left after U-turn.
·         Fail to off signal after lane changing.
·         When turning left fail to keep vehicle near to left side of the lane.
·         Not have a proper steps to check blind spot (look at front & side mirror, look over shoulder).
·         Hold steering wheel too tight.
